Are you doing everything you can to protect your Debit/ATM Card from theft? Debit/ATM Cards continue to be of the most secure payment options available to consumers, but as we increasingly rely on plastic for accessing cash and making purchases it is important to take precautions in protecting our information.
Enhance your card's security with the following guidelines:
Be sure to check the area around the ATM device to ensure no electronic surveillance cameras are directed toward the device.
Notify a manager if there are any suspicious looking individuals around.
Avoid using a terminal if you feel unsafe, or if it appears to have been tampered with.
Never allow anyone to assist you with your transaction by entering in your PIN for you.
Keep your purse and/or wallet secure when you are signing a transaction slip.
Be aware of other customers standing too close to you or trying to observe your transaction.
Shield your PIN by raising your hand for cover, or by positioning yourself so it is difficult for others to watch you enter your PIN.
Never let your card out of your sight during a transaction.
If you request cash back on a transaction, make sure you receive the correct amount and check the amount on your transaction slip.
If a transaction is cancelled or aborted and a second attempt is made to complete the transaction, make a note of the date and location and check your monthly statement to ensure you have not been double charged.
Don't give your PIN number out to anyone.
Use random digits for you PIN and not your date of birth or anniversary date.
If your card is lost or stolen, report it immediately by contacting 1-800-449-7728.
